In September 2008, Biological Psychiatry published a study which reported that loss of sleep, even for one night, increases inflammation in the body.
In the study, the subjects showed greater activation of inflammatory signaling on mornings after they had stayed awake during the hours of 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM, as compared to nights when they slept normally.
